Elena Ivy's story

Elena Ivy Dadswell was the second child of Charles Thomas and Susan (Broadwood) Dadswell and was born at Horsham on 25 December 1895.

Ivy married three times - firstly to Francis Day at Warracknabeal in 1917, the couple having one child, Monica Jean.

Ivy married, secondly, Reinholdt Muller at Horsham about 1928 and in 1940 they were living at Leeton, New South Wales. They also had one child, Leslie David.

After the death of Reinholdt, she married Walter Rudolph Hartman at Horsham about 1944, and they lived at Haven via Horsham until Walter's death in 1962.

Ivy then moved to 28 David Street, Horsham, and lived there until her death at the age of 72 in 1967. She was buried in the Horsham Cemetery, in the same grave as Walter Hartman.

Ivy was remembered for her dedicated work for charitable organisations, being a member of the Wimmera Base Hospital Ladies' Auxiliary, Horsham Red Cross, Wimmera District Ambulance Service Auxiliary and a keen worker for Horsham RSL.

After her death, the Wimmera District Ladies' Auxiliary paid the following tribute to Ivy:

"She was a staunch supporter of the auxiliary for many years. Although her health had been steadily deteriorating for some time, she maintained unstinting interest and participation in fund-raising activity. Her bright and cheerful personality will be sadly missed by the committee."
