Thomas' story

Thomas Dadswell, described in his father's will as "husbandman" (farmer), was the youngest son of Alexander and Anne (Baker) Dodswell.

Thomas was baptised on 11 March 1732 at Rotherfield, and married there on 16 June 1769 to Sarah Brown.

They had ten children, who were all baptised at Rotherfield.

Thomas lived at Mayfield prior to 1766, and left a will dated 2 April 1803 (a few days before his death) in which he named my natural son Edward Dadswell alias Brown, son of my wife Sarah as executor (Edward was born a couple of years before Thomas and Sarah married).

He ordered Edward to sell his property and personal estate, with the proceeds to be invested and the interest from the investment to go to his wife Sarah. On her death, it was to be divided equally among his sons, daughters and grandson Edward.

Thomas died at Rotherfield on 6 April 1803 and was buried on 10 April. Sarah died on 6 July 1808 and was buried on 10 July.
