Robert's story

Robert Doudeswell, son of Robert and Elizabeth Doudeswell, was baptised on 22 February 1606. His baptism entry reads: Robert ye sonne of Robte Doudeswell bapt ye same day.

Robert inherited his father's properties and acquired more over a number of years, as recorded in Rotherfield Manor Court Rolls from 1636 to 1676.

He married at Rotherfield on 13 October 1631, Ann Hodely. They had four children before Ann died at Rotherfield in April 1656.

Robert married a second time at Rotherfield, on 4 April 1658, to Mary Aynscombe, who was baptised at Rotherfield on 18 August 1633 and who is believed to be the daughter of Robert Aynscombe.

Mary and Robert had two children before her death in April 1663. She was buried at Rotherfield.

Robert also died at Rotherfield and was buried there on 11 September 1676. He left legacies to his two daughters, Anne and Mary, and to Anne's children, and his son Edward inherited properties.
